Tech Trek 2.0.5

Another song of the day... you may remember it from the scene in the dance club in this Spike Lee movie. You haven't seen it? You might want to get on that.

Today's library exercise is on Flickr, which is a photo sharing site. I've never had a digital camera, so I don't have too much experience with uploading photos. I've been on facebook for a couple of years and SWP has had a MySpace page for a little over a year, but I've only uploaded and tagged a handfull of photos.

I've been a big fan of The Rub DJ Crew for some time, even though I've never been to one of their parties, I check out Ian Meyer's (Drink Moloko) pictures of the weekly parties in Brooklyn. Matter of fact, here is a shot of Rub DJ's Cosmo Baker and Ayers at the yearly McCarren Pool Party:

Once upon a time, when SWP still did shows on the regular, our friend Eric would come out and take pictures. I appreciated that since I spent most of the show staring at my turntables rather than enjoying the crowd. And actually, Eric is a great photographer... you can peep some of his steez here. Anyway, the thing that I dig most about Flickr is that you can add notes to your pictures. That's a serious step above tagging because you can explain what's going on in the shot more in depth than just naming the photo. Anyway, gotta get to work. These posts are getting longer and longer... I'm gonna have to keep my steez in check. Or at least tell a joke or something.

What I've Been Up To

I haven't had too much time to blog this week... it's been crazy hectic between working here and here. I went out to LP's spot on Seabrook Island on Sunday night (although I previously stated that LP had the best house in Charleston in this post, I take that back... the Duncan St. spot is quite tasty, but the Seabrook spot is like Nutella on a toasted bagel... the BEST). Alex, Will, and I hit up a little juggle sesh on the beach. For those of you who don't know what that means, it involves me doing something like this:

I watched this movie on HBO two nights ago. I really can't say enough about writer/director Judd Apatow. If you've never peeped his steez, you should prolly look at this. He's the creator of my two favorite TV shows of all time: Freaks and Geeks, Undeclared (both available at the library along with his films The 40 Year Old Virgin and pretty soon Knocked Up).

Other than that, just been working and trying to find time to cool out... hopefully after this weekend I'll be writing another Great Weekends post.

Nice talk... see you out there

New Jay-Z Album Out November 6th

Just got the news off ye old interweb that J. Hova is putting out a new album called "American Gangster". At first, I was taken aback because I had been looking forward to this movie for a while. First of all, Denzel in his most controversial role since Training Day and at his most bad ass since Man On Fire (both available on DVD at your local library). Throw Russell Crowe in the mix and Ridley Scott directing and you got a potentially great movie.

Anyway, J's American Gangster is not an official soundtrack, but the songs are inspired by scenes in the movie, which J said really spoke to him in this article. More updates to come now that I'm officially opin over both the movie and album... so stay tuned to the purple steez and get down with it. In fact, you could set up an RSS feed that will keep you up to date. To learn how to do it, check out this exlpanation.

UPDATE: You can peep the first single, which is called "Blue Magic" produced by and featuring Pharrell (I call you 'fareal' cuz you the truth) Williams here

UPDATE TO THE UPDATE: Of course, the afformentioned song has been deleted... apparently Hov doesn't want you to hear it yet. Hopefully you got to it before he did

Tech Trek 2.0.4

First off the song of the day is this.

Now on to the library business. In case you're new to the blog, it all started as a library project and became just random musings (like Peggy Hill in the Arlen Bystander.) If you want to follow along with me and the rest of the library staff who are participating, check out this blog. If you've already been peeping, I'm now checking out De.licio.us, which is a pretty convenient way of organizing your bookmarks (sometimes called favorites depending on what web browser you use) by tagging them with labels that you define. This is actually a pretty welcome change from the defined search terms of the library world and it allows me to use my own language to organize. I've been using De.licio.us to catalogue and organize my favorite youtube videos of DJ routines, like this one...

I've also been learning about Technorati. This is a great way to discover new blogs. Apparently, my blog was already listed on this site, which may explain the number of hits I've been getting recently (notice the hit counter on the top right of the page?). At first, I did not want to claim my blog, because I wasn't sure how comfortable I would be with tons of people peeping the steez and possibly fading the purple hue (for those of you who aren't fluent in Tony, that means I'm worried about haters checking out my blog); but I did claim ye old blog through Technorati... I have to admit, I'm usually pretty private about my personal life, so this whole blog deal is a huge change in my steez. Anyway, I'm still learning about both these tools. Both seem very cool for discovering and organizing new interweb findings, but I'm not sure how much I'll be using them in ye old blog.

I did in fact claim my blog with Technorati, which makes the steez more visible to the whole world. Maybe this will be my motivation to post more... who knows.

Some Team DJ Routines

Check out this here video... best team routine I've seen since the Allies teamed up with rival crew the Scratch Perverts to showcase at the DMC as the Perverted Allies

In case you want to check it out, here's the afformentioned Perverted Allies routine:

Since that was crazy new school, I'll post this video of DJ Kohd showing how new school you can get if you have this mixer:

Enjoy international talk like a pirate day tomorrow... throw out an "Aaargh" for me

sports memories

A while back, Grant, Diddy, and yours truly were at Johnson's pub when Baron Davis did this to Andre Kirilenko:

I was randomly looking at the TV in the corner while we were coolin and saw it live... I grabbed every person around me (most of them I didn't know) to make them watch the replay. Truly the sickest dunk in recent memory. My vote for best moment is when the announcer points out that Adonal Foyle is the epitome of scrunch-faced, which is a great phrase.

Peep this here video to learn the origins of my favorite phrase to describe how you look when you are thoroughly impressed (or don't if you're offended by profanity):

If you dug that one, check out how Timbo toys with J, playing him some Nelly Furtado type steez, then some beat that made it on to Missy's "Cookbook" LP, then what became Luda's "The Potion" (but obviously no virgin ears beyond this point):

J is mildly impressed by the Luda joint, but outright blows off the other two TIMBALAND beats. Then you get to see J drop a verse that didn't make the final cut of the song for controversial battle ramifications which would force him to keep recording and therefore not allow him to retire properly. To top it off, Hov one-takes the last verse of the song and Timbo get crazy amped over how "Dirt off your Shoulders" would be the hottest thing out (which it was).

This post turned into me basically saying everybody needs to see Jay's Fade To Black DVD

Great Weekends

Big things were poppin this weekend. It was Diddy's birthday, and the Duncan crew made T-shirts to commemorate the occasion. Tre and Alex hosted the party, and Bronwyn made a great cake, which I ate on the late night tip.

Mel was there, which always makes for a fun time. Alex, as always, got super excited over a song he hadn't heard before (which is the best thing about knowing Alex... he gets crazy hype when he hears a song he likes and he's already opin.) Anyway... Me, Mel, Alex, and LP were in Laura's car on the way out to bars and this song came on the radio. Alex hadn't heard it before, so he changed the station. Mel and I went crazy in the back seat screaming for him to change it back, and once he did we all got hype. I was singing the "ohhhhhhhh" part through the hook and mel hit up the "i choose you" steez. Best car ride i've had in a while...

Other than that, Tre punched a wall (wish I had a picture of the hole) over a football argument with Erin, and Will once again proclaimed his hatred for Charleston Beer Works. We had brunch at AC's, which is always the right choice, and I slept a total of 8 hours in 4 days.

It's always a great time when I have 2 days off in a row, but I need three days of recovery after.

People I Steez With (part 2)

This is Laura (aka LP). Laura drives one of these. She's pretty handy with a camera, and she has really cool stuff (HDTV, XBox 360, TiVo). She also lives in the best house in Charleston:

I warned her that she was next and I was going to post this picture, but she's a rock star and the whole interweb needs to know about the LP steez.

Internet Findings

Sorry for the lack of posts (don't act like you didn't notice), but it's hard to keep up with something you're not sure anyone is reading. Anyway, here's a few videos from the internet:

I totally dig on Flight of the Conchords

I'm really looking forward to Rock Band

This is the greatest band ever

People I Steez With (part 1)

This is Alex. He works here. Also, he rides one of these... well, not as nice as that one, but you get the idea. He checked out the blog, so I figured I'd pay tribute to the first of my friends to peep the steez. Also, Alex showed me the coolest website devoted to Charleston I've ever seen. Good way to see what the deal is at D'Als before we go there. Anyway, more friends to come... we talked about making personal ads for everyone. I may do that. Stay on the lookout.

gimmsumdat

I peeped these sunglasses on the Urb blog a few weeks ago... if you got $1,000 you don't know what to do with, why not buy me the Louis Vuitton Millionaire suglasses designed by Nigo (of BAPE fame) and Pharrell.

Do Work Son

Crazy busy today since it's the release date for my "Tell a Friend" mixtape. Let me know if you want a copy.

Otherwise, I've discovered a new internet phenomenon: HAND FARTING. Much more on my new hobby to come, but for now... I'll be getting about 300 CD's ready for distribution
