Friday Jams (Untouchable Edition)

Some mornings are really rough. Today is one of them--and it's not even hangover related if you can believe it--making the positive mode I woke up on hard to keep, but I'm persisting. Got all my work for the day done before ten am, so all I gotta do is make it till 3 when I leave work. Today, I bring you the untouchable jams... those that it's impossible to not smile while listening to. Peep Blackalicious' Swan Lake and check the ill sleepy beat by DJ Shadow (if you got good headphones, use them here):

I'm feeling so steezed out, I don't even care that I'm re-posting this jam... peep People Under the Stairs' Suite For a Beaver pt. 1:

This funky-slow piano brought to you courtesy of Kero One's In All the Wrong Places:

Lastly, here's DJ Mark Farina with Piano Grand:

Monday Wake Up Joint (Tardy Tuesday Edition)

After Hunter and I got offstage on Sunday, someone I know from the library and recovery room passed me a burnt CD with the full tracklisting written on a sleeve. Been a long time since someone did that and I actually liked the CD. Homeboy had been telling me about Tanya Morgan (hip-hop group out of Brooklyn) for a little while. I guess he got tired of me not doing my own research, so he gave me a copy. I like it for the most part. Got some good songs. Keep in mind while listening, this is a demo (and the song I'm posting is EQd really shitty) so it's rough. Click here to check Tanya Morgan's Alleye Need.

Friday Jams (More Rare Shit)

Last week's Friday jams post was very well-received, so I figured I'd post more remixes and rarities this week. If you're still sleepy this morning, DJ Eclipse is gonna perk your ears up with the illy intro, then kick you in the face when the drums and bass come in on his remix of OC's Time's Up. Peep:

And the sleepy DJ Premier remix of Fat Joe (back in his DITC days in the 90's) The Shit is Real:

Evil Dee making that SP1200 do work on his remix of Black Moon's Act Like You Want It. For serious. Check that bass line:

Pete Rock drops the hard remix of Jeru the Damaja's classic joint Can't Stop the Prophet:

Lastly, here's Buckwild (of DITC) hitting you with his remix of Channel Live and KRS-One's Mad Izm:

Steez Update

Things have been pretty hectic lately. I've been trying to save money so I can get a new shipment of records. Usually, Hunter and I buy records with the money we get from shows, but we haven't done a show together since Walter's birthday party at Recovery Room, and I haven't done a show since Kulture Klash IV. All that changes this weekend when we play at the Pour House on Maybank Road (I'm not sure if that's technically James Island or John's Island) on Sunday. We're opening for a band called Telepath. It should be a lot of fun. We are planning a more danceable set than usual to get the crowd moving their feet. Hope to see you there.

Monday Wake Up Joint(s)

On dreary/rainy days, I tend to put my head down and walk fast on my way into work. Here's a great soundtrack for that; Company Flow's End to End Burners:

And as a bonus, here's Ill Bill's Gangsta Rap:

Friday Jams (Nas joints you don't know edition)

Today, I'ma bless you with some little known bangers from Nasty Nas (when he was still nasty... before all this bullshit streets disciple/hip-hop is dead/untitled Def Jam cash grab). Check On The Real (from the Illmatic 10th anniversary edition):

I didn't know this till yesterday, but Large Professor did two remixes to It Ain't Hard to Tell for a UK 12" single. The Stink Mix is pretty good, but my nose is crazy open over the Laidback Mix. Peep:

And off Nas' original demo tape, here's Understanding ft. AZ and Biz Markie:

And the now-infamous Main Source track Live at the BBQ from the ultra classic Breaking Atoms LP. This is the first time Nas was ever on wax, and he spits the famous "when I was 12, I went to hell for snuffing Jesus" line that would eventually become the hook for Big L's Devil's Son. Peep, then pick your jaw up:

Here's The Second Coming. This shit bangs like blue steel thang-thangs:

Lastly--and again, off Nas' demo tape--here's I'm a Villain. Peep the ill JBs sample:

Couldn't decide which of the 2 Vinyl Reanimators remixes of Rakim's Guess Who's Back to post, so I'll post both. You decide which you like better.

Here's the first version:

and here's the second version:

I Fucks Wit Tommy Brenneck

You already know that I'm down with Dunham Records and its founder Tommy Brenneck, but I just got turned on to his newest project: The Phenomenal Handclap Band. It's a super-spaced out disco funk in the vein of Cymande (click this link, Mel) and The Rotary Connection (everyone should fuck with this one). Check them live in NYC doing You'll Disappear. So funky... and be sure to check the breakdown at 4:35 and how it leads into an interpretation of Van Halen's Eruption (don't front, I never thought I would reference Van Halen on the blog). Anyway, peep it:

Monday Wake Up Joint

Here's Jurassic 5 (really just Cut Chemist and NuMark since it's instrumental) with Lesson 6: The Lecture. If you're familiar with Doug Pray's film Scratch, then you may have heard this song already. Peep:
