Tech Trek 2.0.3.1

An update to the RSS feed activity I posted on earlier:
I now subscribe to The Superficial, Unemployed Lloyd's blog, the Lords of Apathy blog, ESPN, Best Week Ever, Turntable Lab's blog, the NYT Movie Review page, Urb's blog, Katy's blog, and the Sugar Water Purple myspace blog.

I've been using the bloglines aggregator to keep up with my frequently viewed sites, and I'm finding it pretty convenient.

DJ Bird Flu - Tell A Friend Out Soon

OFFICIAL MIXTAPE RELEASE DATE:DJ Bird Flu - "Tell A Friend" due out on September 4th (day after Labor Day). I'm looking into web hosting so you can download it, but I'll be putting it on Limewire as well as creating a torrent file and mailing hard copies."Tell A Friend" is a true school vinyl mixtape that includes new school indy hip-hop as well as some true school, classics, funk, jazz, fusion, and lots of remixes and re-edits. Get at me for a copy... or don't. You'll prolly end up hearing it either way cause I'm pressing an insane amount of these CD's, and I'm gonna hand them out all willy-nilly on the streets of the Chuck.

If you have any ideas or advice about how I can post this mix (split into 17 different tracks) on the interweb, holla. Meenwhile, check out the Sugar Water Purple MySpace Page

Tech Trek 2.0.3

The latest Tech Trek activity was about using RSS (Really Simple Syndication) News Feeds. It's actually an extremely easy way to organize what sites I frequent to keep up with the new news (that sounds like the rich girl that TI dates in ATL... which was a surprising movie). By using Bloglines you can keep all of your blog and news sites organized, and you can be notified when each of those sites posts something new. I'm not sure how much I will use RSS feeds since I am still getting used to the new way of organizing (usually, I visit about 5 sites every day in the same order to keep up with blogs, news, and other posts). For now, I have Bloglines keeping me up to date on The Superficial, Urb Magazine's Blog, and a few movie and music review sites... we'll see how that goes.

Some DJ Steez

Figured I'd post a few fun links of some of my favorite DJ's gettin loose. First off, the king of mix J. Rocc. Next up, D. Styles doing his famous "Bust This, Bust That" Routine. Also, here's A-Trak from Montreal doing an ill routine that involves the classic Beats for Jugglers vol. 3 and moves into his well-known juggle and synchopate routine of De La Soul's "Oooh". Finally, if you have the patience, here's the ultra mega (and ultra long) classic battle between the X-Men and the Invisible Skratch Piklz.

For my own vanity, here's a picture of me spinning at a friend's party a few months ago:

Tech Trek 2.0.2

The latest library Tech Trek 2.0 activity involved instant messaging. I hadn't used and IM services in over 2 years, but I signed on to AOL Instant Messenger for a minute while at home on my Mac. I said hi to a few friends and left a few messages for friends with away messages up. I also signed on to iChat after I imported my AOL buddy list to try to do some video conferencing, but none of my friends with Macs were available. I don't really get down with IMing because it's hard to carry on a cohesive conversation, but I think it could be a useful tool for library patrons to get in contact with librarians without sitting on hold while we check on items. More on Tech Trek 2.0 to come, but for now... here's a nice video I found of J. Rocc from the Beat Junkies doing a trick mix demo.

Tech Trek 2.0.1

I just got done checking out the 7 1/2 Habits of Highly Successful Lifelong Learners for the Library's Tech Trek 2.0 program. It was a video lesson that explained how different adult learning is from traditional school. I think the easiest of the strategies would be using technology. I think the hardest would be to teach, only because I know Peter is going to ask me a million questions. Check out Peter's Myspace Page sometime. It's actually pretty cool, but he asked me so many questions when he was building his page. I've never even built a Myspace page, but we figured it out with my limited knowledge of HTML and a lot of guesswork.

Vegas, Son

Just got back from Vegas... my friend Jubes got married to Steph.

Lots of fun times... more to come I'm sure once more pics come in, but for now here's Head, Jubes, and me outside the reception

And here's Kutch looking real haggard with Jim and Jenn

Thanks to Jenn for uploading the photos to facebook while still in Vegas... seriously, who has time to tag photos in Vegas?
