Not Much to Report

I don't really have anything to write about, but I'm trying to keep up with this blogging thing. I hope your weekend was steezier than mine (I hung out with my parents, who were in town for their 30th anniversary). I kept it pretty low key and caught up on my sleep. Have a good Monday.

People I Steez With

Tomorrow is Schrader's birthday, so I'm celebrating early with yet another People I Steez With post. Schrader goes to pharmacy school here with this girl. She REALLY enjoys this tasty beverage (couldn't find a picture of the Extra Dry), and she's one of my favorite people to party with. Supposedly, Schrader has a boyfriend; but I've never seen him. I heard that he doesn't party... that's funny to me since he's dating Schrader. That's like not liking french fries and dating Mel. Happy Birthday, girl. DIBIOE

(Yet Another) New Mix In Progress

I'm working on a new mix (trying to stay ahead of the curve for the Philly mixtape exchange). It's called "What I Put On When I'm Banging Your Mom". I know... I promised this mix a while back, but the original concept (old jams ala Isleys/Marvin/Donny) wasn't working. I decided to go in the neo soul direction and play some slow jams (around 85 bpm) that are more akin to getting scrompfest 08 poppin off right. Stay tuned for more, but to whet your appetite I'll give away some of the artists and songs that will be played (in no particular order):

Notorious BIG - Big Poppa
Mos Def - The Panties
Pharcyde - Splatitorium
Erykah Badu - On And On
Lauryn Hill - Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You
ATCQ - Bonita Applebum
DJ Cam - Love Junkie (J. Dilla Remix)
Jay-Z - I Know
D'Angleo - Ghetto Heaven Remix
J. Dilla - One For Ghost

Also, you know there'll be some Lovage, Portishead, Kid Koala, DJ Shadow... anything downtempo that qualifies as an Auditory Aphrodesiac (hit me up with suggestions/questions/comments)

This One's For Mel

Here's A-Trak showcasing a fly routine... wait till about 3 minutes in for that real steez

So... We Threw A Party This Weekend

On Saturday, my roomates and I threw a party at our house. There were lots of games played involving dice and cards, 2 kegs on the back porch, and even a juggle sesh in the parking lot (no pictures of that, but I think it's the reason the cops came... lucky for us they didn't come until the party was over and we had cleaned up and turned off the music). Alex brought over a sandwich, Evan ate some of it, Rina did some dancing on the front steps, and it was a great time. Nothing got stollen or broken, lots of people came (even this guy... so he's upgraded to doing it relatively small in 08), and I want to say thanks to everyone who came out and helped me celebrate my special accomplishment of staying out of trouble for 2 months.

People I Steez With

This is Diddy (real name Patrick). He sells cameras for this company. He drives one of these, and he spends most of his time here. Diddy is really good at partying (when he's not sketching out with Trey or just dissappearing). He is the catalyst for many hillarious situations and is usually the last man standing at the end of a long night of drinking. Big ups to the man who did it the biggest in 07, but he should probobly step his game up before being accused of doing it tiny in 08.

The Mix Is Done

I've decided to call the new mix "Somebody Give Me a Rock". The title is a little cryptic, but if you listen to the mix carefully, you will get where it came from. I've decided not to post the mix for download, so if you want a copy you can get at me through email or my cell phone. We're having a party on Saturday at my spot, hope to see you there. Until then, DIBIOE.

New Untitled (For Now) Bird Flu Mix

I finished a new mix this week for my sister's mixtape club in Philly. If you haven't yet, you should peep her website to check her mixes and album art. She started a club of about 20 Philladelphians who meet and exchange mix CD's. Each month, the group decides on a theme, then everyone makes a mix that speaks to that theme however they see fit. This month, the theme is SATURDAY NIGHT 11:25. In making my mix (which is about 35 minutes and should be available for download on the blog shortly), I tried to think what I would spin if I were playing at a party on a Saturday just before midnight.

Here are the tracks:
1. Outkast - Skew It On the Bar B
2. Wu Tang Clan - Uzi (Pinky Ring)
3. Maceo and the Macks - Soul Power '74 (Shoes Re-Edit)
4. Willie Wright - Right On For the Darkness (DJ Tibb Re-Edit)
5. The Meters - Oh Calcutta (Shoes Re-Edit)
6. Lefty's Soul Connection - Bam Bam
7. Lefty's Soul Connection - Bouncing Ball
8. Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings - How Long Do I Have to Wait For You
9. DJ Format - Stealin James
10. De La Soul - A Rollerskating Jam Named "Saturday"
11. Jay-Z - Party Life (Bird Flu Remix)
12. Blowfly - Outro

Get at me in the next couple of days for a (super rare, untitled) copy of the new mix. If you have any ideas for what I should title this mix, leave a suggestion as a comment or just hit me up.

Best Song About Robbery

On the way up to LP's mountain house a few weeks ago, Mel was playing his iPod and this song came on. Mel said it was probobly the best song about robbing someone, so we came up with a list. What else is on that list isn't important. What's important is that the DJ crew Killer Tactics made an ill routine out of that record. Peep:

Here's What's Been Going On

I haven't been keeping up with this whole blogging thing lately, so here's an update on the steezy adventures of Tony:
First off, we threw Betras a going away party three weekends ago. He moved to San Francisco (with a nice birthday stop in Vegas). Laura and Leah hosted, I spun records, kegs were drank, everyone got steezy, and a good time was had by all.
Two weekends ago, we went up to LP's parents' place in Banner Elk, NC. Lots of people came, we all got steezy, some people went snowboarding, and Grant broke his collar bone.
Most of us slept on the floor (although it was a real comfortable floor), there was lots of partying, foozball, billiards, and a few boot seshes in the garage. The ride home wasn't bad. Mel slept, Alex got us lost for a minute (but got us back on track--thanks, iPhone), and we made it home safe.

Last weekend, I went to Philly to see my sister and celebrate my mom's birthday with my parents, aunt and uncle, my sister and her boyfriend, and her boyfriend's parents. There were lots of fun times, and we even managed to get steezy at a cool bar with a bowling alley (don't front, it was a cool spot) and a late night party that I heard started out as an afternoon baby shower

More updates to come, for now... DIBIOE (if you don't know, then you're obviously not down)

This Blew My Mind When I Saw It

I know I'm always posting about DJ Craze (the illest of the scratch/turntablist DJ's ever), but I'm trying to make an argument here. I'm always catching lip from Q-Bert fans for saying Craze is the illest, so I figured I'd post yet another Craze video. In this clip, Craze shows his party rocking skills... I seriously had no idea he was this good outside of a 6 minute battle/juggle routine. Peep, and be amazed:

The turntables might wobble, but they won't fall down
