It's Official... Hope to See You Thursday

I'm going to be DJing at 16 Market on Thursday, January 17th starting at 10. I also turn 24 at midnight that night, so come out and help me celebrate entering my mid-twenties while still maintaining my immaturity. This guy will be bartending, and there will be half-price martinis as well as great music and (hopefully) a dance party. I'd love to see you there. For more information, send me an email (melea@ccpl.org) or just give me a call (if you have my number).

I'll be playing this song at some point to get ready for the Wu show on the 21st:

So Damn Tired

It's Friday morning, and I couldn't be more tired. I'm almost at the end of a 60 hour work week (plus I didn't sleep last night since I was on my turntables working on a new mix). There's an opera simulcast at the library tomorrow, so come check that out if you're interested. I'll be there until 12:30 setting up and doing my ushering duties. Other than that, have a great weekend.

So... I woke up this morning

and the first thing I saw when I came down the stairs was a big box with my name on it and a note from Rina that said "woot woot". I opened it to find my new turntable, but the plug was for European voltage. Mel and I spent the morning hours getting a table from a discount store that I won't mention and getting a European power adapter. The turntable works great (once I figured out it needed to be set to 110 volts instead of 220) and sounds fantastic. Mel and I spent the rest of the afternoon listening to my record collection and cutting to Pete Rock's Petstrumentals. You probobly won't see me for a couple of days while I spend all my time in my bedroom.

Stay on the lookout for Thursday the 17th... it could be a good night

Return of the Steez

I just ordered a new turntable online, which means in a couple of weeks I'll be back on my game DJing parties and hopefully bars. I've spoken with the owner of 16 Market, and pretty soon I should start spinning there on Thursday nights. I'll be accompanied by 1/2 price (or BOGO if you smell me) martinis and this guy behind the bar. I'm hoping to develop it into a residency (like every week) and maybe even make some money--or at least get free drinks.

I'd also like to start spinning at The Black Cart, which is above Joe Pasta on upper King, because they have DJ's there on the weekends. Most of the DJ's I've seen/heard in Charleston use MP3 to vinyl conversion hard/software --such as Serato--but that's not my steez. I only fox with vinyl. Plus, I got more skill than most of those fakers anyway.

So, stay on the lookout. If you get a text from me asking you to come to a bar I am playing at, try and come. I'll do my best to keep you dancing until last call.

People I Steez With

This is Will. He's this guy's twin brother. He also went to school with this guy. He goes to law school here (I know) and drives one of these. Which are two very inter-related facts because although he goes to school in Columbia, he drives home nearly every weekend to maintain what little rep he still has. Apart from that, dude is crazy silly and seriously enjoys candy a little too much.
The best part about writing this post was figuring out which picture to use... so many hilarious options...

Big Ups to My Sister

Every wished you knew someone super smart, pretty, awesome, creative, and had fantastic taste in music? I know a few people like that, but my sister stands out above them all. She has a blog that you should peep out. She makes mix tapes and creates original cut-and-paste artwork for every copy (she usually only makes two copies of each CD, each with it's own never to be reproduced cover). This time tho, she's featuring your boy Bird Flu and the Tell a Friend mix with two original covers--shown above--and lots of copies. You can drop her an email at mixtapesbringsmiles@gmail.com if you want a copy and check out her myspace page to stay updated on new mixes and new covers. Big shit poppin in the Mele house.
